Hey everyone, this is Alvin. I’m presently the guest-blogger for SWSRN. In a quickly heated debate with the site owner this weekend, I agreed to hastily begin my duties sooner rather than my typical, “later”. Now, on to the drivel.
SWSRN and I spent our weekend running errands while dodging the schedule changes induced by Hurricane Charley. While the actual storm did little damage in our little hometown of Wilson, shopping at Wal-Mart and driving around the rain-soaked neighborhoods proved interesting. How wonderful a thing it is to not have major storm damage. SWSRN remembers well Hurricane Floyd in 1999, so she tends to wear the hat of Carnac while we watch the weather on TV.
Our last big hurrah before we secluded ourselves at SWSRN headquarters was to drive near the vicinity of Flo’s Kitchen to reconnoiter a biscuit. Flo’s is little bigger than its large cooktop, southern feminine cooks working elbow-to-elbow while attempting to keep up with the gathering crowds of drivers that encompass them. Flo’s is an experience and taste not to be missed in Wilson, NC.
SWSRN chose ham, egg and cheese while I opted for ternerloin and cheese. All decent Southern eateries will always provide “Hoop” cheese unless you demand otherwise. For the unaware, hoop cheese is cheddar that is cut from a large round “hoop”. There is no finer cheese when melted within inches of molecular breakdown and placed in a freshly-cooked biscuit irregularly sized to the circumference of a Burger King Whopper.
I asked SWSRN to take pictures as we circled Flo’s while awaiting our biscuit. This momentarily confused the cashier who queried, “Is that lightning?” when she saw the flash in her periphery. Telling her we were taking hurricane pictures for SWSRN’s sister in Kansas, she sent her best wishes and worried about her appearance on camera.
I will be posting for SWSRN until she deems this site worthy of her time and writing prowess. Expect to see pictures from Flo’s in a few days.
